On October 5th, at 1 p.m., Marriage Equality Revolution Front, which comprises more than 120 civic groups led by Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights (TAPCPR), Bear-Class.TW, Gay & Lesbian Awakening Day (GLAD), NTU Student Association Gender Studio and Youth Synergy Taiwan Foundation, will gather the strength of more than 10,000 people at the entrance to the Legislative Yuan on the side of Qingdao E. Rd. The "rainbow siege" activity is to call on all legislators not to be kidnapped by homophobia anymore. On the other hand, they should let down their own prejudices and discrimination against the LGBTQ community and strive for the rights of LGBTQ to form a family like every other citizen of the country.
On the day of the rainbow siege, Marriage Equality Revolution Front will invite participants to hang the "Homophobic Locks" representing the 112 seats of the Legislative Yuan, on the wall outside of the Legislative Yuan, to further address the issue of gender equality and voice the opinion of the public. We call on all legislators to stand alongside the crowd on the marriage equality front and unlock the « Homophobic Locks » with the « Marriage Equality Keys » already in their hands. Some legislators that never expressed their opinions on the issue before are to present at the venue to show their support that day.
During the rainbow siege, the organizer will lead the crowd to perform "Break off All Chains Dance." The dance is edited from the homophobic statements given by Pastor Mei-Jiang Kuo in her religious service last year, which will serve as a countermeasure to those hostile and discriminatory homophobic remarks in a humorous and yet sarcastic manner.
In addition, the organizer will also stage "Catch the Balls of Marriage Equality" activity that day. Four big balls symbolizing marriage equality will be thrown into the crowd and pushed toward the Legislative Yuan, which is a request of all legislators to catch the balls of people's demand for marriage equality.
Furthermore, the organizer has also prepared a "Rainbow Bus" that travels to several spots in Taipei City that are of symbolic meanings to the LGBTQ community, so as to give a tour of LGBTQ's history major movements to the passengers on board. The bus will depart from Gongguan (公館) and stop at National Taiwan University, 228 Peace Memorial Park and Ximending (西門町). We've also invited Vincent, a long-time gay rights activist and host of HelloQueer, to be the tour guide on the bus to tell the stories of LGBTQ from the very beginning. The Rainbow Bus will depart from Gongguan at 12:00 and arrive at the Legislative Yuan (intersection of Zhenjiang St. and Zhongxiao E. Rd.) at 13:30. There will be no additional press conference for the Rainbow Bus, but friends from the media are more than welcome to join the Rainbow Bus Tour.
